It wasn’t a great week for Cory Booker.
Or was it?
On Sunday, The Record ran a story chronicling the fate of a Newark property once owned by Booker and now derelict. On Tuesday, political rival Steve Lonegan held a press conference at the building but was shouted down by employees from Newark Now, a Booker-founded organization. The event garnered widespread coverage in the state. Today, the Booker Campaign announced that a pro-Booker rally in Jersey City with Chicago Mayor Rahm Emmanuel has been canceled. (PolitickerNJ attributes the cancellation to a mass shooting in Chicago last night.)
The latest Rutgers Eagleton poll puts Booker 35 points ahead of Lonegan.
More coverage on healthcare: NJ Spotlight questions whether the creation of a new bloc of NJ and PA hospitals will help them negotiate for higher insurance rates. NJ.com is carrying a Bloomberg Newsstory on the unintended consequences of Obamacare.
Marriage equality is back in the news, as lobbying efforts ramp up to convert lawmakers in an effort to override the governor’s 2012 veto of the New Jersey marriage equality bill.
Technology was in state news this week with the Tech Launch incubator debuting at Montclair State and Hoboken Mayor Dawn Zimmer addressing tech issues vis-a-vis disaster preparation with NJ Tech Meetup. On the analog end of things, Global Mala — the large-scale yoga event — returns to Newarkthis Sunday.
And wrapping it up for the week: Apparently, the Code of Judicial Conduct prohibits humor: The NJ Supreme Court has ruled that a part-time municipal judge in Hackensack cannot serve in his position if he continues to pursue his acting and comedy career. Justice is not only blind; she’s humorless. (Ba-dum tsshhh.)
