Gov. Christie isn’t quite feeling the love from the NJ news ecosystem today.
As the governor advances toward almost certain re-election, Star-Ledger columnist Tom Moran writes that he is “the most overrated governor in the country,” Moran pins a number of failures on the Governor: “New Jersey’s economy is a mess, even compared with its neighbors. The property tax burden is up sharply. Poverty is rising. And the state’s credit rating has dropped on Christie’s watch as the long-range outlook deteriorates.” And there’s more.
This is such a hot topic that Nj.com set up a live online chat with Moran for 11 a.m. Monday morning.
Meanwhile, Mother Crusader resurrects a June Rutgers Eagleton poll showing that 88% of those who call education the state’s most pressing priority disapprove of the governor’s performance. A poll by Asbury Park Press is more positive about the governor’s education policies, but not quite glowing.
In other news: two more murders rock Newark, Miss America is crowned, investigators and aid follow after the Seaside fire disaster, a local news site gets kudos from police, and health care is a big story in the state today with coverage in The Record and NJ Spotlight.
