Chris Christie got a bit of a beat down from the New York Post in an editorial posted on Friday night. Citing a report by New Jersey Watchdog, the tabloid’s editorial board takes the NJ state pension system to task for allowing 18 state employees — one of whom works directly for Christie — to earn full-time salaries while collecting pensions after suffering permanent disability.
But it’s no worries for Christie: NJ Spotlight reports today that incumbent Democrats running for reelection are distancing themselves from Christie’s rival Barbara Buono and are instead highlighting bipartisan cooperation with the guv.
Last Sunday, The Record ran a story chronicling the derelict condition of a Newark property once owned by U.S. Senate candidate Cory Booker. This Sunday, it was a much more glowing story for Booker as The Record detailed Booker’s nascent days as a leader while playing high school football at Northern Valley Regional High School in Old Tappan.
Meanwhile, opponent Steve Lonegan keeps pounding away at Booker; Lonegan’s latest attack is to charge that Booker illegally accepted payments from his old law firm while mayor of Newark. Lonegan is also a running a radio ad attacking Booker for spending time in California hob-knobbing with Hollywood stars while Newark suffers a “murder epidemic.”
