There’s another election in a little over two weeks, but New Jersey media is still parsing Tuesday’s special election for U.S. Senate. The Record and Star-Ledger, like others, are ruminating over whether or not Booker’s win was “big enough” and if the margin means he will meet a greater challenge when he must run again next year.
Booker and Gov. Christie were friendly at a ShopRite groundbreaking the day after, though Christie teased Booker about being a Giants fan: “I’m happy for the Mayor today with his victory …. last night with his win it was the first win that the Giants have gotten all year.” (NJTV has the video and an analysis by David Cruz about how the Booker/Christie relationship has now shifted.)
Sarah Gonzalez of WNYC/NJPR reports on the process of succession for Mayor of Newark now that Booker will be stepping down.
In other political news, Gov. Christie scored a win yesterday when Faustino Fernandez-Vina was confirmed as state Supreme Court judge. As NJ Spotlight’s Hank Kalet reported: “Fernandez-Vina is only the second of six Christie nominees to make it through the Judiciary Committee, as Democrats openly rebel against what they see as the governor’s attempt to remake the court.”
