While the readers of NJ.com were calling Barbara Buono the winner of last night’s gubernatorial debate (at 50.9% to Christie’s 43% as of 11 a.m. today), the pundits were giving the governor the edge.
Tom Moran (who famously called Christie the “most overrated” U.S. governor) wrote, “In the end, the governor who earned his fame as a gladiator won Tuesday night’s gubernatorial debate with a chivalrous kiss on the cheek.”
Charles Stile in The Record wrote that “Christie kept it cool and bland” while Buono went on the attack. Stile opined that the governor “seemed determined not to look or sound like a bully, as his critics often call him.”
Meanwhile, the Senate candidates Cory Booker and Steve Lonegan square off again tonight at Rowan University in South Jersey. The Philadelphia Inquirer’s Matt Katz will host a live chat of the debate starting at 6:45 p.m.
