This week, New Jersey local media are all over the story of a street naming gone awry in Paterson. Seems the city council had good intentions in renaming of a portion of Van Houten street after Alhaj Forman Ali, who is credited as founder of the Jalalabad Jam-E-Masjid. But both the Paterson Press and Paterson Times are reporting that mosque leaders say they were in the dark about the naming and are unhappy that one person is being credited with founding a mosque which, in fact, had many fathers.
The health care exchanges mandated under the Affordable Care Act will begin accepting members on October 1, and local media are doing their part to inform New Jerseyans. Brick Patch posted a story this week detailing how one federally qualified health care center is working to get the word out to the uninsured in Ocean County.
Police and church officials in Saddle Brook are crediting a story in Cliffview Pilot for helping them solve a crime — someone pilfering cash from a church collection box. Apparently, after the alleged thief read the story online, he felt compelled to confess his sins.
Blogfinger opened a can of worms when it questioned why fire-damaged businesses in Seaside Park and Seaside Heights have been pledged Sandy recovery money while Ocean Grove Camp Meeting Association, a private not-for-profit organization, still awaits funding to rebuild the boardwalk there. Check out the comments.
We’re very partial to animal stories here in New Jersey. Earlier this week, Kevin Bacon, the pig, made news by running loose in South Jersey. Yesterday, Haddonfield/Haddon Township Patch editor Matt Skoufalos put his town’s squabbles over backyard chickens into historical perspective.
