The Honeymoon Continues

Beautiful weather and golden sunshine poured down on hundreds of couples across New Jersey yesterday as same-sex marriage became legal. Small media outlets and large alike were on hand to record — in Maplewood, everyone from The Alternative Press to News 12 New Jersey crowded the steps of Town Hall to get the story. Throughout the state, Patch reported marriage license applications and ceremonies. According to The Record, however, it was not easy-going throughout the state as confusion reigned in many towns.

Meanwhile, elections are coming to New Jersey — again. And it’s not just Chris Christie versus Barbara Buono. Throughout the state, senators and assembly members are up for re-election. PolitckerNJ covers Republican attempts to oust Democrats in South Jersey — despite a lack of campaigning by the governor. And NJ Spotlight covers an ethics issue in the first district that could unseat a Democratic assemblyman. NJ Spotlight also recently produced one of its handy-dandy maps to show fundraising in all 40 NJ legislative districts.

The story of the male Jets fan who punched a female Patriots fan on Sunday keeps growing. Once identified, it turns out that the puncher did time for stabbing a 17-year-old to death 20 years ago. Now, his parents are saying the 38-year-old was merely defending himself in punching the female fan.

And we welcome a new member to the NJ local news ecosystem: The Alternative Press of East Orange. Report long and prosper!
