Weiner Scandal Touches Jersey

For those who thought the Hudson River was creating a safe barrier between them and Anthony Weiner, think again.

The scandal now has an New Jersey angle.

From Tuesday's New York Daily News.

From Tuesday’s New York Daily News.

Tuesday morning saw the Daily News post a story in which a former Weiner intern, Olivia Nuzzi, wrote that Weiner had called her “Monica” and that many were working in the campaign in hopes of accessing Weiner’s wife Huma Abedin and her boss Hillary Clinton. A campaign spokeswoman, Barbara Morgan, then went on a profanity-laced rant about the intern with Talking Points Memo. (Update: Morgan has since apologized to Nuzzi; Nuzzi accepted the apology via twitter.)

That intern is from Middletown, NJ and previously worked for two local New Jersey news sites, More Monmouth Musings and TriCity News in Asbury Park — as proudly pointed out by Art Gallagher of More Monmouth Musings.

In other local news, Westfield’s 9/11 memorial was damaged this winter when vandals shattered one of its glass panels. Now it’s back and better than ever.

“Shoe leather has given way to jogging rubber,” writes Kevin Coughlin of Morristown Green. “Senate candidate Cory Booker gave the 21st-century definition of ‘running for office’ on Tuesday night, lacing up his jogging shoes for a dash to a Morristown frozen yogurt shop.” See the video here.

Jerry DeMarco of Cliffview PIlot did some basic fact-checking and found that an arrested suspected for prescription fraud in Tenafly was a low-level reality television star.

Finally, who knew? New Jersey is one of the best places in North America to find Peruvian food. EthnicNJ.com has the story.
